New Modern Sideboards

Introducing Two New Modern Sideboards: Sintra & Braga

Looking for a stylish yet functional storage solution for your lounge or dining room? Then you’re in the right place. At New England Home Interiors, we’ve just added two brand new modern sideboards to our range. And there’s a myriad of sizes and colours to choose from!

Made to order in Portugal, our on-trend Sintra and Braga models offer ample space to keep your living areas neat and tidy. And they also make great focal points for otherwise simple rooms. Interested? Learn all about each design and the customisation options below. Plus, if you’re stuck for inspiration, we’ll be providing some handy styling tips too. Let’s get started!

The Sintra modern sideboard

Sintra modern sideboard in matt white with fluted doors

As unique as it is sophisticated, the Sintra sideboard features curved edges, fluted doors and hairpin metal legs. It’s undoubtedly contemporary, but with a touch of art-deco elegance!

Inside, you’ll find two large cupboards with adjustable glass shelves to accommodate items of all shapes and sizes. Each is fitted with twin soft-close doors to keep clutter tucked away out of sight. And the top has a partially raised rim to prevent display items from sliding off.

Aesthetically, the smooth side panels contrast beautifully against the textured façade to add visual interest. In fact, the fluted front reflects one of this year’s biggest interior trends, which gained popularity alongside the rise of Japandi style décor. But whilst wood and earthy hues were the original focus, the Sintra can be supplied in numerous different finishes. Even two-tone designs if you like – just let us know what you’d prefer!

Customisation options

We offer a range of gloss and matte lacquered colours to suit your colour scheme, from timeless neutrals to statement-making brights. You can also tailor the leg colour, with many painted and metallic options to choose from. Not sure which to go for? Chrome is a top metallic pick right now! Or you could simply match the legs to your other furniture’s fixtures.

Additionally, you can customise the top of your Sintra sideboard. Choices include a wooden top in a lacquered colour to match or contrast with the rest of the design. Or you might prefer a wood veneered surface which replicates your favourite wood finish. Alternatively, durable ceramic tops featuring a range of authentic patterns are available on request. So if you like natural stone finishes such as marble veining or metal effects, this is the best option for you.

Choose from three sizes: 200cm, 220cm or 240cm wide, with a height of 80cm and depth of 50cm. Or contact us to arrange a bespoke size to fit your space exactly. And if you’d like a matching set, high modern sideboards and media units will soon be available, so check back soon.

The Braga contemporary sideboard

The second addition to our collection is the Braga ribbed sideboard. Characterised by its clean lines and eye-catching grooves, this low-profile rectangular model is ultra-modern. The handleless routed doors and square metal leg brackets combined offer an almost industrial look. This is ideal if you’re after something a little edgy, yet minimalistic enough to avoid visual overwhelm. And the slim raised legs also ensure a more airy feel vs. bulkier designs.

Again, you’ll have two spacious cupboards to work with, plus the full length of the surface for displaying your favourite items. And all of the same customisation options listed above to ensure it fits in seamlessly with your existing décor. The only difference is the choice of standard sizes. These include 205cm, 225cm and 245cm widths, with heights of 81cm and depths of 52.5cm. But if you need another size, a custom-design can be arranged.

Decorative sideboard styling tips

If this is the first modern sideboard you’re thinking of purchasing and you need some style inspiration, keep reading…

What should I store or display on my sideboard?

Sideboards are traditionally used for storing dining essentials such as dishes and linens. But they can also be used in living rooms as additional storage for books, DVDs, records and children’s toys. You can use trays or boxes to group and organise smaller items as needed. And if you choose a taller Sintra high sideboard, you could even use it as a drinks cabinet!

Meanwhile, the top serves as a display area for decorative items like photos, ornaments, candles and fruit bowls. As well as providing a functional spot to position a lamp. Just remember to leave some open space to prevent the surface from appearing cluttered

Where should I position my contemporary sideboard?

Given their relatively narrow design, our modern sideboards are very versatile in terms of placement. Typically, they are positioned centrally against a blank wall or backed up to a sofa, depending on room layout. That way, the three decorative sides are visible. Just make sure you leave space between items of furniture so that you can open the cupboards fully.

If placing against a wall, you might want to add some artwork or a mirror above for a more balanced look. Or you could even position your luxury sideboard beneath a wall-mounted TV and use it like a media unit. Otherwise, due to their low profile design, both the Sintra and Braga can be placed beneath windows without blocking light.

What colour or pattern should I choose?

This is entirely up to you and your style preference! We offer single block colour designs for a more streamlined look or fun two-toned styles for added character. Plus the option to incorporate wood, stone or metal effect finishes into the design if you so choose.

White modern marble dining table with matching Sintra modern sideboards

To help you decide, it’s worth considering the other furniture situated in the same room and choosing a complementary finish. For example, if you have a solid oak dining table, then an oak-effect wood veneered sideboard would pair well. Likewise, we can offer coordinating ceramic tabletops and sideboard surfaces – speak to our team to learn more.

In terms of colour, think about your current décor and upholstery and whether you’d like your contemporary sideboard to match. If in doubt, you could always opt for a neutral brown, white or grey shade that won’t go out of style. Or if you’d like your new furniture to stand out, why not go for a contrasting shade? This could be a green or navy jewel tone or perhaps a trending soft pink, grey or blue. Whatever you have in mind, we can bring your vision to life!
